Mar Menor Sea School is an RYA Sail Training Centre in La Manga, Spain. If you are considering a career in the industry or just after some professional yet friendly sail training, our sea school should be one of your first and last ports of call. The Mar Menor and surrounding area offers near perfect conditions for learning to sail. The Start Yachting and Competent Crew courses are ideal for beginners, whilst those with previous experience and Basic Navigation skills will benefit from our Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper courses which provide an excellent platform to help you develop skills as you take command of the yacht and her crew. We can also arrange VHF radio licences, 1^st Aid, ICC courses and for yachting professionals we can assist with STCW95, powerboat level 2 and Padi dive courses.

Our sailing courses follow the Worldwide recognised RYA syllabus, but at the same time are adapted to suit your particular needs as an individual, helping you become a more competent sailor. Offering both practical sailing lessons and shore based theory courses including the 1 day VHF radio licence and 3 day International Certificate of Competence -ICC, we believe we have a course to suit everyone regardless of ability.

The practical lessons focus on the skills required to actually sail a yacht, whilst incorporating theoretical knowledge into real situations. You will be taught all the basics of sailing including sail handling and trimming, tacking, gybing, helming, man overboard recovery techniques and so the list goes on, then there is the bizarre nautical terminology of port, starboard, sheets, warps, etc. that some consider equivalent to learning a foreign language. For those at Day skipper level and above the incorporation of theory into practical situations is greater as the knowledge gained in the classroom is applied to navigation and pilotage techniques, collision avoidance regulations and general sailing theory. Ultimately making you a better sailor armed with the skills and knowledge of how to avoid many of the problems that arise on the water or at least deal with them if they do happen. During your time with us, you will be given regular constructive feedback to monitor your progress.

RYA qualifications are respected Worldwide and generally considered as one of the best training schemes available. As such after successfully completing the sailing courses, many holders of RYA certificates find work in the marine industry or go on to buy their own yachts, confident in the knowledge that when sailing with family and friends they have received some of the best training available. All of our sailing courses are run by experienced RYA qualified Instructors with excellent local knowledge and chosen for their patience and dedication to helping you achieve your goals.

The Start Yachting and Competent Crew courses are aimed at total novices or possibly those returning to sailing following an extended break of several years. Those with recent experience should opt for our Day Skipper / Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster prep courses or if you are looking to learn quickly or become a yachting professional then our Fastrack Yachtmaster Coastal and Offshore programmes may be more suitable. We can even help you find work in the industry on completion of your chosen programme.
