Q: What should I look for when choosing a sailing school?
A: Good honest advice along with prompt and courteous communication. When you book, you invest your precious leisure time and money so make sure the school is capable of meeting your expectations, for a more in depth answer read more...
Q: Will I get my own cabin?
A: Yes - we believe that your comfort is crucial in adding to the overall learning experience, for that reason we only teach 3 people on practical sailing weeks from our base in Spain. We are one of the few sailing schools that guarantees your own cabin.
Q: Who else will be onboard?
A: Our clients vary weekly, so it is impossible to say who you will be sailing with, however we have an International blend of clients from all walks of life - so life onboard is rarely dull. Most people stay in touch after the courses and develop long standing friendships.
Q: Can I bring the family?
A: Absolutely, we are happy to have children onboard providing they are supervised by an adult. If you adhere to some basic safety rules, sailing is a safe sport and the younger ones can get involved in whatever capacity they can.
Q: My wife and daughter want to go sailing but have reservations.
A: It is understandable that females may be reluctant to sign up for a weeks sailing with a group of strangers, for this reason we offer Ladies Only sailing. If they are still hesitant get them to call Debbie and talk through their concerns.
Q: I have special dietary requirements, will that be a problem?
A: Not at all - we are happy to cater for special dietary requirements although we do not support Fad diets and may apply a small surcharge if applicable.
Q: Where will we go?
A: Sailing is weather dependent, due to the nature of our coastline we will head North or South. Typically we stay around the Mar Menor on the first day to settle everyone into the yacht and get plenty of tacking and gybing practice. To the N lies Torrevieja, Santa Pola, Tabarca, Alicante and Campello, whilst if heading S we have Cartagena, Mazarron and Aguilas. For those looking to go further afield we offer yacht charter weeks to Ibiza or you could charter a cabin on our Cruise in Company adventures.
Q: How many nautical miles will we cover?
A: We try to keep excessive mileage to a minimum as staying on a single tack for hours on end does not help improve your sailing skills. Typically we cover anywhere between 110 to 130 nautical miles giving us time to concentrate on the core skills and access a greater number of destinations.
Q: Will there be wind?
A: The weather is something we have no control over, however the Mar Menor area is a mecca for wind and kite surfers so thats a pretty good indication that the wind regularly blows with sea breezes often providing some exhilirating sailing during the afternoons.
Q: Do you offer race training?
A: Not specific race training although we are looking to run Spinnaker and sail trim workshops as part of our one day courses.
Q: What if I get seasick?
A: The curse of many sailors, it seems to strike without warning and can render even the most hardened of sailors useless. Fortunately with a positve mindset and use of sea sickness tablets or sea bands it can be beaten.
Q: Is there any pre-course reading that you can recommend?
A: You can never read too much and often we find that certain books add a different perspective to the same subject, listed below are just a few of our favourites:
- Day Skipper / Yachtmaster by Alison Noice
- Reeds Skippers guide by Malcolm Pearson
- Skipper pocket handbook by Basil Mosenthal
- Day Skipper / Yachtmaster by Tom Cunliffe
- Weather at sea by Chris Tibbs
- VHF by Tim Bartlett
- Pass your Yachtmaster by David Fairhall and Mike Peyton
- Weems and Plath light and colregs rule (not a book but an excellent learning aid)
- Any of the RYA aide-memoir course books
The list is endless and there are many great books on sailing, to visit the RYA online bookshop, click below

- Visa or Mastercard
- Bank transfers
- Paypal
- RYA vouchers
Alternative methods may be available by special arrangement.
In order to secure bookings a non refundable 20% deposit must be paid.
