Our Spanish base is located on the fabulous Mar Menor, an inland sea with direct access into the Mediterranean (non-tidal) whilst our mile-building and discovery time will take you into the Atlantic having first negotiated the busy shipping lanes of the Straits of Gibraltar (tidal). Providing you access to some of the best sail training waters in Spain along with plenty of opportunities to test and apply your new found skills. Our Fastrack Yachtmaster course is a comprehensive 8 or 16 week training programme leading to the coveted and World recognised RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster qualifications. This complete Yachtmaster programme is suitable for anyone wanting to learn to sail and who is prepared to put in the effort required to become a first class sailor. You will quickly appreaciate that there is a lot more when learning to sail than just having good sailing skills, we call it seamanship. The aim of this intensive training programme is to provide you with all the necessary skills required to become a first class seaman, not only will you acquire excellent sailing skills, but you will hone other often overlooked seamanship skills such as splicing, rigging, boat systems, boat safety and decision making. The 8 week programmes are designed to take the total novice sailor from Competent Crew up to Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Coastal level, for those with existing experience they can progress from Coastal Skipper to Yachtmaster, for more details on this programme please contact us. During your time with us you can expect to cover in excess of 1200 nautical miles and spend a minimum of 30 days at sea. As with the 16 week programme, weekends are often spent learning seamanship skills. The 16 week complete Yachtmaster programme is aimed primarily at the novice sailor looking to get to Yachtmaster level and potentially gain work in the Industry as a professional Skipper. During the 16 week programme you will spend an average of 65 days at sea, whilst gaining a minimum of 2500 nautical miles and visit some spectacular destinations. The conditions will be varied as will the sailing, providing you with valuable experience, ultimately making you a better sailor. There will be at least 13 days in the classroom during which time you will complete the Day Skipper and Coastal/Yachtmaster navigation theory courses. Unlike many schools, our weekends are spent sailing, on maintenance or attending one of our practical skills sessions on topics such as splicing, rigging, engines, gel-coat repairs, visits to Coastguard stations or attending the 1 day SRC (VHF radio) and First Aid courses, providing an intense learning programme for those looking to get just a little bit extra from their training provider. Some students attend the programme purely for pleasure or as a means of fulfilling an ambition, whilst others may be taking time out either as a part of a work sabbatical or as a career break before finding a new direction in life. The one thing that is guaranteed is that you will meet an assortment of people from various walks of life, there is never a dull moment and it is these special experiences that make us richer in life. As a family business, we treat every student as an individual and with regular appraisals to help keep you on track, we really do go that extra mile to help you achieve your goals. Due to the intensity of the course (sample itinerary) free-time in Spain is limited but during this time you are welcome to make use of our shore facilities and try your hand at dinghy sailing, windsurfing or kayaking, for those interested in diving, the area also offers a protected marine reserve, numerous wrecks, shore dives and several snorkelling spots. Depending on which programme you choose, training takes place as follows: Whatever option you choose, we promise to provide you with some of the best training in the industry. For those who wish to acquire even greater knowledge, we can also arrange RYA Ocean theory and qualifying Ocean passage. The number of students is strictly limited to 3 students per boat during practical sailing weeks, this is mainly down to sleeping accommodation, we would never expect students to share bunks, 16 weeks is a long time and your privacy and well-being is vital to enjoying and gaining maximum knowledge from the course. Within the industry it is widely acknowledged that long passages generally do not benefit those working towards the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore qualifications. Whilst spending days on the same tack may be part of the Ocean passage and valuable skills can still be gained, this type of sailing is not conducive to providing you with the necessary skills to navigate closer to the coast or enter busy anchorages or harbours, these skills are best acquired with shorter passages which in turn allow a greater number of places to be visited.
