| VHF Radio Operator Course |
|
One day shorebased course - Learn to communicate effectively at sea. At times, marine VHF radios provide the only communication link to other vessels and shore stations such as Coastguards and Marinas. Operators licences are issued by the RYA on behalf of OFCOM and are valid for both fixed and portable hand held units used on British registered vessels. See our suggested pre-course reading.
Learn the basic radio functions, correct use of channels, pheonetic alphabet, plus learn how to report distress/emergency situations at sea and request HELP using our training radios. You cannot beat 'hands on' learning to maximise the learning experience and gain confidence, so we let you play for as long as you need.
This is much more than just a radio course, providing an insight into the GMDSS network and rescue resources for saving lives at sea. Click here to read more about communicating at sea
In the interest of safety, every vessel should carry a VHF unit, be it portable of fixed and have a person competent to operate it.
Candidates looking to take the Coastal Yachtmaster and Offshore Yachtmaster exams, must hold a current First Aid certificate and VHF licence.
Cost - 130€ p.p plus 30GBP licence fee
