The calm waters of the Mar Menor on the Costa Calida, situated on the S.E. corner of Spain are perfect for learning to sail, nestled between the better known Costa Blanca and Costa Almeria, it retains a Spanish atmosphere.

Out into the Mediterranean, Cartagena, Mazarrón and Aguilas lie to the south, with Torrevieja, Santa Pola, Tabarca and Alicante to the North. Longer passages allow visits to Altea and Denia with the option to go offshore to the Islands of Ibiza and Formentera for special charter weeks, where it is possible to spend nights at anchor under the stars.

Mar Menor Sea School is the only recognised RYA Sailing School for practical and theory yacht sailing courses on Spain's Costa Calida.

The area is gaining in popularity and finding its feet on the sailing stage. Alicante is now home to the Velex Ocean sailing race and Cartagena has hosted legs of the Audi Med Cup circuit for the last 2 years.  Other high profile non-professional regattas such as the 'Ruta de la Sal', Cartagena ⇒ Ibiza and Cartagena ⇒ Melilla add to the areas sailing credentials.

For the more adventurous, our central location provides easy access to the Eastern Mediterranean by Island hopping via Mallorca, Menorca, Sardinia, Malta and Tunisia (Tunisia is not an Island!)  Winds are generally reliable with sea breezes picking up in the afternoon, for more information on the area our pilot book 'ABC guide to sailing the Costas' provides a valuable insight to the marinas and facilities of this area along with tips for maximum enjoyment afloat.

Bareboat and Skippered Yacht Charter is available locally, although none of the major players operate in this area, there are numerous marinas of which Miramar in Santa Pola and YPC in Cartagena have to be 2 of my favourites. The overall infrastructure is excellent with new roads and cheap flights from several UK airports, so getting here couldn't be easier.
